  • PIERO DELLA FRANCESCA

Italian artist and mathematician (1415-1492) had two passions – art and geometry. He sought that link between an organic and geometric basis of beauty. Piero looked to geometry and numbers to solve problems of world representation and find ideal beauty. Piero, being both a mathematician and a craftsman, was accustomed to using geometry to interpret natural forms. He also wrote pure math books on subjects such as Regular Solids, in addition to Perspective in Painting.

  • HANS ROSLING

Professor of International Health, Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden. Rosling developed the breakthrough software behind his visualizations. His nonprofit Gapminder founded with his son and daughter-in-law. The free software — which can be loaded with any data — was purchased by Google in March 2007. Gapminder unveils the beauty of statistics by turning boring numbers into enjoyable animations that make sense of the world.
